The Gospel
Recognize Your Condition
The first step in finding our way to God is admitting that we are lost. The Bible teaches that every person has a "sin nature" inherited from the first man and woman. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Sin is any act or thought contrary to God’s holy standard, and this sin separates us from Him. Just as breaking a law has a penalty, sin has a consequence. Romans 6:23 tells us, "For the wages of sin is death..." This "wage" is spiritual death—an eternal separation from God.
Good Works Are Not the Answer
Many people try to bridge the gap to God through religion, baptism, or being a "good person." While these things are not bad, they cannot remove the stain of sin. Proverbs 14:12 warns, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." The Bible is clear that salvation is a gift, not something we earn. Ephesians 2:8–9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Jesus Christ Provided the Way
Even though we were separated from God by our sin, He loved us enough to provide a way back. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as the full payment for our sins and to rise again three days later.
John 3:16 explains: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we no longer have to pay the penalty for our own sin.
Believe and Receive Christ
To have a relationship with God and a home in Heaven, you must stop trusting in your own efforts and place your full trust in Jesus Christ alone. Romans 10:13 promises, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." If you will confess that you are a sinner, ask God to forgive you, and turn to Him as your only Savior, He promises to give you the free gift of eternal life. You can make that decision today by praying from your heart:
"Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again. Right now, I turn from my sin and trust in Jesus alone to be my Savior. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. Amen."
